Greenlyte Carbon Technologies (Greenlyte), a German startup, is redefining the narrative of progress, replacing coal's smog with clean skies and sustainable energy. Using
advanced technology, Greenlyte captures atmspheric CO2 and converts it into green energy sources, fuels and storage.
Greenlyte was founded in 2022 by serial entrepreneurs Florian Hildebrand and Dr. Niklas
Friederichsen, alongside a seasoned direct air capture (DAC) expert Dr. Peter Behr. The
company specializes in DAC and hydrogen technology, efficiently removing CO2 from the
atmosphere using a liquid-sorbent solution, while also producing hydrogen as a valuable
by-product.
Today Greenlyte is a DAC technology leader with investors such as Earlybird Ventures
and Partech, with
Dr. Hendrik Brandis, Earlybird Co-Founder and Partner stating:
"Greenlyte's swift progress and ability to secure over €25 Million in funding and grants in such a short period of time is a clear indicator of the market's trust in their offering. We are convinced that their DAC technology will make a real difference in the world and are proud to continue supporting Greenlyte's team in advancing DAC technology.”
The company’s success is evident as Greenlyte has been nominated by the Norrsken
Foundation as one of the world’s most impactful startups. Each year, the foundation
releases its prestigious 'Impact/100 List,' featuring only the 100 most promising startups
globally, with Greenlyte securing a coveted position in the 2024 edition. The Norrsken
Impact/100 team processed more than 1200 startups and measured their impact based on
those driving measurable, positive progress against 17 sustainable development goals. As
a result Greenlyte was featured at Time Square in New York to celebrate being named one
of the world’s most promising impact startups working actively to shape a better future.
Florian Hildebrand, co-founder and CEO at Greenlyte said:
“It is a great honor to be included on the Norrsken Foundation's Impact/100 List. But it’s also a testament to the fact that successful and impactful companies can emerge from the Ruhr region and NRW. German innovation is far from dormant, and we’re proud to contribute our part to a sustainable future.”
Greenlyte’s latest joint project with Montreal-based carbon removal project developer
Deep Sky is an example of the important work they are doing. As the world's first
gigaton-scale carbon removal company, Deep Sky will operate Greenlyte’s DAC system as
part of its Labs test facility. The system will be installed in 2025, leveraging the region's
vast renewable hydroelectric energy reserves.
Although Greenlyte was only founded in 2022, it’s backed by 15 years of research, which
has led the company to its success. What might seem like an overnight achievement is
underscored by raising over €25 million and being featured on the Norrsken Foundation's
Impact/100 List. Greenlyte builds on a strong legacy of green tech research and industry
innovation, contributing to a brighter, cleaner future for all.
About Greenlyte Carbon Technologies
In a world where rising greenhouse gas emissions are threatening ecological stability,
innovation and decisive action are essential. Greenlyte, founded in 2022, has made it its
mission to combat the climate crisis with its pioneering Direct Air Capture (DAC)
technology. By simultaneously capturing CO2 and producing green hydrogen, Greenlyte
generates significant cost reductions for these resources. This technological
breakthrough enables cost- and energy-efficient production of green fuel and
comprehensive negative emissions. Greenlyte has raised more than 25 million euros,
counts more than 50 team members and has successfully launched its first commercial
projects. In the coming years, the company plans to expand its CO2 capture capacity to
0.1 gigatons of CO2 p.a. by 2050 - at a cost of less than $100 US per ton.
